Possibly changing clinic

I really like the atmosphere at the private Harley Street clinic (a.k.a “The Baby Making Place” or TBMP) I’ve been to so far however, it’s pricey and it’s not really conveniently located from my office. Since I’m going for stimulated cycles I’m going to need monitoring via ultrasound scans and inevitably some of these will fall on work days. Because of this I think it is more practical to chose a clinic that’s nearer to work.

There’s a big NHS hospital very close to my office (which also happens to be the hospital where I was born!!) and they have an Assisted Conception Unit (ACU). Their prices are lower than TBMP – on the procedural side it’s not a massive difference per treatment, but after a few cycles the significance of that “small” amount increases dramatically.

…The anticlimax

So sorry for leaving you hanging! I finally had the gynae appointment last week and it was a little bit of a roller coaster of a day, I needed some time to wind down and process afterwards, and then things got busy with work…but I’m back with my update although to be honest it’s a bit of an anticlimax.

I went to Guy’s Hospital in London for the appointment and I was pleased that I had an early appointment before the clinic had a change to start running late. The appointment letter had said to allow up to 3 hours as they’d try and do any investigations on the day if they could, so I dragged my mum along to keep me company, but I didn’t end up being there anywhere near that long Continue reading

I’ve baffled the doctor!!

Latest non-development in the Case of the Disappearing Periods.

Yesterday I anxiously waited for my 7:50pm appointment with the GP to get the results of my blood tests. My usual doctor (Dr A) is off taking some personal time, so for the last couple of appointment when I’ve gone for blood results I’ve seen Dr B (who is very nice).

The blood tests were for a whole host of things since, so far, PCOS, suspected Premature Ovarian Failure (POF/early menopause), and any obvious ovary/womb irregularities have been rule out by the investigations so far. So last week they took 3 tubes of blood to run 5 tests, and today I went for my results… everything came back normal.

Now, while this may initially sound like cause to jump up and down screaming “Yay! I’m normal!! :-)” I’m not. Continue reading

Starting over (charting)

I ran out of space on my fertility chart! I reached day 35 and found that I had nowhere else to go – a normal cycle is 22(ish)-35 days and I have now passed that mark.

Through September I have had the weirdest chart. Temperature is supposed to be relatively steady but kinda low in your early cycle then, after the LH surge that marks ovulation, your temperature should rise a bit and stay a little higher until your period. Well my chart looks like a (very messy) roller coaster! Continue reading

Results are in! Pt 1.

This won’t be a long post. I just wanted to keep you updated on what’s happening with the investigations into “The Case of the Disappearing Periods”.

My GP ordered a slew of blood tests following my ultrasound scans that indicated anovulation (no ovulation). I went for a progesterone blood test 7 days after ovulation was supposed to have occured, since a progesterone test can be used to confirm whether ovulation did/did not occur. Continue reading
