A letter to Baby

Hello Baby,

Right now you’re just a twinkle in your mother’s eye but I can’t wait to meet you.  I’ve dreamed of you ever since my early teens, and I’ve always had a certainty that we’d have a happy and loving relationship.

Baby, I want to raise you as a part of my large, loving and crazy family. I want to teach you your ABCs, your 123s, how to ride a bike, how to bake cookies, and most importantly to be a moral, kind, caring person who’ll make a difference in the world – just the kind of person we need more of. So adding you will be the difference make to the world. You will be my companion, my pupil, and my legacy when I’m gone.

I had hoped I’d be married when you came along, so your (biological) father and I could raise you as the consequence of and ultimate testament to our love; but it seems that’s not meant to be. Don’t worry though, you will be a consequence of a love even stronger than that; a love I have for you which is so strong I’m going to do everything in my power to bring you into the world, and nuture and protect you when you’re here.

One day I hope we do meet a wonderful man who’ll come into our lives and join our family of 2 (or, more accurately, our branch of a big family tree). I deliberately won’t say “complete our family” because our family will be complete the moment I hold you in my arms. Anything after that is just a bonus.

Maybe one day I’ll share this blog with you and you’ll get to know the story of how Mama wanted you so much, and what I did to make sure we’d meet. Whatever you read on this blog, remember that the most important thing I’ll ever write is this: I love you Baby.

Mama xx
